Let there be life

After taking a hiatus the sewing machine is alive again and I was finally able to finish my new tote bag made from the fabric I bought on my Valentine's trip to Leavenworth, WA. I have a fabulous hand model that mad this picture possible.

St. Patrick's Gift

My St. Patrick's gifts I made for my family where special bags for cooking baked potatoes in the microwave. After all St. Patrick's Day is an Irish holiday and Potatoes are defiantly Irish.

Pretty Colors

In honor of it being almost March and St. Patrick's day being in March I made rainbow cupcakes. My mom's birthday and mine are both in March so trying to spread out the cake eating times. I thought the drops of food coloring in the batter looked cool even before I mixed it in.

All the pretty colors made me want to paint, dye easter eggs or find some play-doh.

Pretty cupcakes baking in the oven. I like the one near the back where you can see the darker colors peaking through.

And here we have it. A rainbow cupcake with all its glorious layers of color.

Baby Shower

This past Sunday I went to my cousin Melanie's baby shower. Her baby girl is going to be named "Eva Jean." I thought the chocolate decorations on this cake were cool. I have been want to try this technique with chocolate.

Before the fun began. The fun of seeing what's inside the mysterious packages.

This is my cousin Aimee's cute son. In September she will be providing him with either a little brother or sister.

My aunt ("Grandma Sherry") and my cousin Jana enjoying the good eats.

Miss Dana being organized as always. She is keeping a good record of all the gifts.

I still think the three sisters must have coordinated ahead of time that black shirts and dark blue jeans was the outfit to wear.

Cookie Baking

I initially bought an old fashioned cookie press at a thrift store. While it looked to be in good condition and had all the pieces it would not press out cookies. For Christmas this year my sister gave me a new cookie press. I finally had a chance to try it out yesterday making heart cookies. It worked much better then my thrift store version. I felt like I was finding the joy a little girl might find from using a new easy bake oven. As my mom would say it was very "Tricky."

I forgot to include a picture of the fat quarter bundle I purchased at the quilt shop in Leavenworth. We were looking for a place to eat and had wandered off the main street when I spotted a quilt shop. Last year when I was in Hawaii I was able to hit up a couple of quilt shops too. :) This fabric is from moda's Eva collection.

Leavenworth Weekend

Our get away cabin we shared with two of Ben's relatives. Usually the cabin still has quite a bit of snow at this time of year but like every where else it was on the low side this year.

A couple of fine mugs. If I had longer arms I could take better pictures. LOL.

We tried out cross country skiing for the first time. Luckily where we went was relatively flat. The snow was kind of wet and it seemed like we had to work pretty hard to move very fast. In the future we will probably stick to mostly downhill but it was still fun to try something new.

It was still very pretty even if the snow wasn't very deep. We were going to try to go tubing but the tubing hill was already closed for the season.

Ben is posing but a giant stand mixer that has been re purposed as a planter outside a Bavarian Bakery. We tried a loaf of their Artisan bread and a pastry.

We had fun strolling by all the little shops. One of the shops contained delicious gelato.

Fun Patterns

On my recent trip to Leavenworth, WA I stumbled upon a quilt shop and bought some fat quarters that are burning a hole in my stash waiting for me to decide what to use them for. Today I was doing some pattern browsing on the Internet. I thought some of you might also enjoy some of the patterns I found. All of the patterns are free patterns but one. Pictured above is the Hushabye Tote Bag.

This is the Mill House Inn Tote Bag.

This is a Quilter's Side Zip Tote pdf pattern being sold for down load on etsy.

This is a cute Art Binder pattern.

This Wallet Tutorial is made from fabric and clothing labels but could be adapted to just be made from fabric.
This is a Diaper Clutch/Changing Station made from a place mat with a button and elastic closure added.

I was also contemplating making place mats that would allow me to incorporate several different fabrics and still look sophisticated. This is one of the place mat patterns I found that fits the bill.

Cute Heart Candy Boxes

I found this fun and easy to make treat box on Martha Stewart's website. You can make one from an 8.5"x 11" piece of card stock or two from a 12"x 12" piece of card stock.

Super Bowl

Super Bowl Parties are not about foot ball. They are about eating yummy food. Kristina made some delicious Quesadillas with lots of fresh ingredients.

Several of her friends joined us for the occasion. This is Erin and Jeff who helped us exercise the Wii before the game.

This is Anjie who brought delightful brownies. Even if she didn't like how they turned out I found them scrumptious.

And holding down the other end of the couch my one and only. I spent most of the game making cards.

I Love Holidays

I saw the design for this cute Valentine's Day card and had to make myself some to give away. Fabric and paper crafting, plus tea, how "purrfect!"

And here is my feline Valentine's. I thought cats grew out of their cuteness as they got older. I may be bias but I don't think mine has.

A Tower of Color

I previously bought an "Oh Cherry, Oh" charm pack by Me and My Sister. It has been waiting for me to decide what to turn it into for almost a year. The other day I decided it would be perfect to use in making these cute fabric basics. The colors divided out so well I only had three squares left over from my pack.

I bought a little bit of coordinating yardage to line the baskets with and am very pleased with the results.

Pizza, Pizza

One of the main reasons I wanted a baking stone was for baking Pizza. I finally got to try it out. It help to assist in making some really good Pizza.
